What We Do

The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) is the only municipal employee hired directly by Council. The CAO’s Office leads the administration, manages the daily operations of the corporation and fosters a positive workplace culture.

We also:

  • Act as the primary liaison between Council and staff

  • Provide guidance and oversight to all departments

  • Ensure the decisions of Council are implemented effectively

  • Support informed decision-making through staff advice

  • Coordinate Council agendas in partnership with the Clerk’s Office

Motion Action Tracker

The Council Motion Action Tracker should be reviewed often and updated regularly:

  • Review items assigned to your department and update, if necessary, the staff member to whom they are assigned or let the CAO’s Office know if an item being tracked for your department’s action should be moved.
  •  Review and update the “Quarter Ready” column – this is the Quarter when the action item will be ready or is slated to come back.

  If something is complete:

  •  Let the CAO’s Office know by “Tagging” the EA to the CAO in the comment to the action AND
  •  Mark the item as “COMPLETE” (under “Quarter Ready”)

*REMINDER: If an action from Council is to bring forward/back a report to a future Council meeting, submit a Council Report Request (below) to discuss and schedule a Council date.

Reporting to Council

To request that a staff report be added to a Council or Committee of the Whole agenda, please fill out the following form. The CAO will review the request and confirm whether the report can be scheduled as requested or recommend an alternate date if necessary.

Which CotW or Council meeting?
What is the working title?
Who are the report writer and Director?
Why does the report need to go to Council?
E.g. Is the report responding to a Council motion? Is the report an annual requirement per legislation? Is the report seeking additional budget?
